Wirral Swallows and Amazons Adventure Group is a registered Charity helping young people many of them underprivileged, some with special needs who live in Wirral & surrounding areas. We work closely alongside childrens groups and schools to identify those who we consider will most benefit from our services. All Trustees are volunteers and unpaid. So far each year we have managed to help between 200 and up to 400 young people. We will be helped by over 50 adult volunteer carers/leaders. Whilst watching the film ‘Swallows and Amazons’ some years ago, and observing the effects it had upon children we realised that Adventure Activities could be a wonderful medium & template for dramatic positive change. From feedback we have received, over the last couple of years we now have confirmation that Adventure Activities offer tools for encouraging children to communicate effectively, to use imagination, to develop, individual creativity, self confidence, leadership qualities and to think in new healthy and productive ways. We are unique in that we can organise and ensure that children, especially with disadvantage and those who would not normally get opportunities for outdoor adventures, are now able, with our help, to enjoy opportunities that otherwise due to their circumstances would pass them by. Any funding we receive will help us to benefit these our future citizens and so the children/young folk and society in general will benefit. Those who fund us are advised on how their money helps with photos and were possible a short video or DVD movie. Our work benefits children who would in many cases often otherwise deteriorate mentally, psychologically, intellectually and spiritually. We Provide: supervised short Residential activity courses structured to avoid boredom and stimulate excitement and generate enthusiasm and interest Our courses offer up to 12 or on the longer courses several more, structured exciting activities over a 3 day Residential long Weekend, or in special cases an in week Residential of 4 or 5 days. Activities are pleasurable, exciting and sometimes challenging. Whilst on our courses the children learn that things can be dangerous but if approached with knowledge and with the right guidance, direction and equipment, these otherwise hazardous activities can be enjoyed safely and can be valuable for self development, confidence building, self discipline and working and contributing within a team. Skilled supervision helps encourage the children to realise their individual potential. All mistakes are recognised as learning’s and the children are encouraged to find out from each experience what they have learned. No child is ever told off; however none productive attitudes and behaviours are challenged and the opposite positive often-easier options are discussed. Competition only occurs between groups and not between individuals, so all are enthused by the group dynamic. There are no winners and no losers only members of active groups, complimenting and supporting each other.
